About The Position

This is a temporary summer floater position within the Early Education and Care department. The role involves providing care and supervision for children in a daycare or classroom setting, supporting their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development through age-appropriate activities. The floater will also be responsible for maintaining compliance with regulations, communicating effectively with families and colleagues, and assessing child development.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ year of work experience in a related job discipline

  • Certification in first aid
  • Certification in recognizing child abuse
  • Certification in recognition of common childhood diseases

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with parents, co-workers, and regulatory agents through clear documentation and written reports, including daily reports, lesson plans, and newsletters.
  • Integrate family requests and traditions into the classroom and provide non-judgmental support to parents.
  • Assess each child's development using progress reports, screening instruments, direct observation, and information from families.
  • Collaborate and communicate assessment information with the classroom team and link assessment data with growth opportunities.
  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with NAEYC code of ethics, city and state regulations, and accreditation requirements.
  • Accurately complete Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) documentation and follow food service rules.
  • Participate in improving organizational performance by recommending areas for improvement and collecting data.
  • Collaborate with the classroom lead to maintain budget targets by recommending purchases, staffing structures, and process efficiencies.
  • Plan, implement, and communicate age-appropriate activities that facilitate the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of assigned children.
  • Provide responsive, developmentally appropriate care for guiding children's behavior and engagement, including inquiry, redirection, verbalizing feelings, encouraging problem-solving, and setting consistent limits.
  • Maintain and demonstrate high-level knowledge of child development and evidence-based practice.
  • Provide care and supervision of children in a child care or classroom setting.
