About The Position

Under general direction of the building administrator, is responsible for planning, providing, and evaluating varied learning experiences of students in cooperation with other staff members, parents, and the public. The position makes long and short-range plans for each subject area of instruction, provides for individual differences in the learning needs of students, demonstrates subject mastery, and provides a classroom climate based on mutual respect, rapport, fairness, and consistency. The teacher demonstrates competency in instructional skills, evaluates in terms of planned goals and revises instruction as a result of the evaluation, and informs pupils of their progress. The role involves interacting positively with students, professional associates, and patrons, meeting classes, rendering accurate reports, performing assigned duties punctually, and adjusting to varied situations, demands, and new instructional concepts. Additionally, the teacher fulfills job-related non-teaching duties and directs student teachers, paraeducators, pupil tutors, Option C students, methods class students, and parent volunteers. The position also handles student discipline and attendant problems. Work is performed in a regular school building.

Requirements

  • Washington Endorsement - Special Education
  • Thorough knowledge of subject areas taught.
  • Ability to organize time and materials effectively.
  • Ability to be flexible.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and volunteers in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to incorporate literacy instruction into other areas of instruction.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree.
  • Experience teaching in an urban public school system.
