About The Position

Under general direction of the building administrator, is responsible for planning, providing, and evaluating varied learning experiences of students in cooperation with other staff members, parents, and the public. The position involves making long and short-range plans for each subject area of instruction, providing for individual differences in the learning needs of students, and demonstrating subject mastery. The teacher is expected to create a classroom climate based on mutual respect, rapport, fairness, and consistency, and to demonstrate competency in instructional skills. Evaluation of student progress and revision of instruction based on evaluation are key functions. The role includes informing pupils of their progress, interacting positively with students, professional associates, and patrons, meeting classes, rendering accurate reports, performing assigned duties punctually, and adjusting to varied situations, demands, and new instructional concepts. The position also fulfills job-related non-teaching duties and directs student teachers, paraeducators, pupil tutors, and parent volunteers. Handling student discipline and attendant problems is also part of the role. The essential functions listed are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.

Requirements

• Washington Endorsement - Special Education
• Thorough knowledge of subject areas taught.
• Ability to organize time and materials effectively.
• Ability to be flexible.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and volunteers in a diverse environment.
• Ability to incorporate literacy instruction into other areas of instruction.
• Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsement appropriate to assignment.
• Fingerprinting and Background check.
• Ability to obtain and maintain access to JBLM in compliance with the REAL ID Act and all applicable installation access requirements (for positions located on Joint Base Lewis-McChord only).
