About The Position

Provide special education consultation and instruction to meet the needs of eligible students identified with autism spectrum disorder. This role involves participating in ARD/IEP meetings, completing required paperwork, developing and implementing instructional goals, demonstrating competence in behavior management principles, administering testing, communicating with parents and staff, collecting student progress data, and using research-based instructional methods. The teacher will also participate in professional development, physically prompt students, and may have additional SHARS duties and provide personal care as identified in student IEPs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in related field
• Valid Texas certificate in appropriate area
• Ability to work effectively between the school and community
• Experience in providing instruction to students with autism spectrum disorder

Nice To Haves

• Valid CPI certification (preferred or after employment)

Responsibilities

• Participate in ARD/IEP meetings for eligible students.
• Complete local, state and federal paper work required for program participation.
• Develop and implement instructional program goals to meet the individual needs of each student and accountable for the KISD autism program teaching competencies.
• Demonstrate competence in the principles of changing behavior including consideration of environmental factors, and manipulating antecedents and consequences.
• Administer criterion referenced, district, and state testing as appropriate.
• Provide on-going communication with parents/guardians, campus staff, and special education supervisors.
• Collect and maintain appropriate data to measure student progress.
• Provide instruction using curriculum, environmental adaptations and accommodations, and instructional methods proven effective through current scientifically based research.
• Use teaching procedures that promote generalization and maintenance of skills.
• Participate in required continuing professional development designed to further develop knowledge and skills.
• Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
• Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
• Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) and student teacher(s)
