About The Position

This position reports through the Educational Coordinator to the Director of Adolescent Education. Provides instruction to students in a clinical day school setting within a safe, structured educational environment. Participates in the planning, instructing and evaluating of the curricula in accordance with State Department of Education standards. Determines and coordinates milieu/classroom behavioral interventions in collaboration with the school administrator and provides supervision to the assigned Teacher Assistant in the classroom. Attends Planning and Placement Team Meetings for assigned students. Contributes to creating a caring and compassionate environment through ECHN's Core Values of Teamwork, Communication, Respect and Caring.

Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelors degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid CT Teaching Certificate in Special Education (#165).
  • Level of care age-specific competencies are required.
  • Strong teaching skills including a demonstrated strength in team orientation and strong written as well as verbal communication skills using the English language.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills and an ability to serve as a role model in demonstrating effective coping skills.
  • Computer competency with basic knowledge of Microsoft WORD and OUTLOOK is required.
  • Must be flexible in approach so that service-specific as well as overall system needs can be met, be able to function effectively and, at times, independently in a work environment where multi-tasking is necessary.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to travel between multiple work sites; and travel is required in order to perform essential duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with special needs adolescents in a clinical setting, preferably to specific prospective service setting, is considered a plus.
  • Familiarity with abuse and neglect reporting and duty-to-warn mandates and knowledge of community-based resources is preferred.
