About The Position

Mapleton Public Schools, Adams County District #1 is seeking a licensed Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year at Explore PK-8. Explore PK-8 is an Expeditionary Learning (EL) School that emphasizes learning beyond the classroom walls through community-based expeditions and strong community partnerships. The school culture encourages students to become active learners and leaders. The position is responsible for meeting the diverse needs of learners, including those with special education, at-risk, and linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds, through inclusive practices and varied instructional methods.

Requirements

Colorado teaching license with an appropriate Special Education endorsement required.
K-3 teachers must provide documentation of evidence-based literacy training, Read Act Designation, per CDE requirements.
Special Education assignments may require training from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) on non-verbal de-escalation and physical restraint.
Mandatory Title IX training is required by the Colorado Department of Education and for all public school employees. Title IX training addresses harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Completing these mandatory Title IX training courses ensure we are meeting state requirements while continuing to foster a culture of safety and belonging across our schools. You will have two mandatory training courses that must be completed within 30 days of your date of hire and are required to be completed on your own time.

Nice To Haves

Additional endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education preferred, or willingness to pursue endorsement or equivalent coursework.
Previous training in KAPLAN, ECAR, and ECAW preferred.

Aligns all instruction with and designs instructional interventions with State and local standards and assessments.
Establishes and maintains strong classroom management.
Utilizes a variety of teaching styles to accommodate student-learning needs.
Knowledgeable and experienced in administering a variety of assessments.
Demonstrated ability to work with a team approach.
Demonstrated ability to write quality IEPs, including goals and benchmarks based on assessments and needs.
Flexibility around IEP meeting times.
