About The Position

The Moses Lake School District is seeking applications for an Elementary Special Education Life Skills Self-Contained Teacher. This position involves designing and implementing individual programs for students with mild to significant disabilities, maintaining a positive and team-oriented approach, and demonstrating enthusiasm for teaching. The role requires the ability to relate warmly and acceptingly to all students, facilitate peer relationships, and participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), which may include functional behavioral assessments and behavior intervention plans. The teacher will maintain continuous measurement data on student progress, cooperate as a team member in staffing, diagnosis, and placement of students, and conduct conferences with parents and students to report progress. Communication and interpretation of the school program to families, teaching and assisting with health/hygiene activities, and training, monitoring, and supervising instructional assistants are also key responsibilities. The position requires supporting and demonstrating commitment to the mission, vision, core principles, and policies of the Moses Lake School District, and maintaining excellent attendance. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid Washington State Teacher certification (K-8 Elementary endorsement).
  • Special Education endorsement.
  • Skills working with students with moderate to severe disabilities in a self-contained model in an elementary school.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students, administrators, and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage educational assistants conducting multiple classroom programs simultaneously.
  • Willingness and ability to work with students with behavioral difficulties and to receive training in this area or other areas as needed.
  • Physical ability to lift and transfer students.
  • Willingness to assist students with disabilities with feeding and toileting needs.
  • Well versed in special education laws and current special education trends.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with multi-disciplinary team members, students, and parents.
  • Ability to design and to teach others to implement educational programs for students with disabilities.
  • Willingness to receive first aid training.
  • Experience with, knowledge of, skill in, and support of shared decision-making.
  • Experience, knowledge, and skill working with Washington State’s Educational Reform – Essential Learnings and New Assessments.
