About The Position

Under the direction of the school principal, the Teacher-Minister - Spanish is responsible for supporting the Diocese of St. Augustine in its mission to educate, evangelize and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment. This role requires recognizing and supporting the unique Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The teacher must integrate Catholic religious curriculum, build the school's faith community through participation in religious and service-related activities, and demonstrate effective planning and classroom management skills. The position also involves continuous professional development and adherence to all diocesan and school policies.

Requirements

• Must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Spanish or related field from an accredited institution.
• Must maintain Professional Educator certification in the State of Florida.
• Must have or be able to obtain within two years Basic Diocesan Ministry Certification.
• Ability to respect, promote, accommodate, and not be in conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines and laws of the Roman Catholic faith in the way one speaks, acts and instructs.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Must successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and every five years; must complete Protecting God’s Children (PGC) workshop prior to employment.
• Proficient in use of computer technology, including school-related software.
• Ability to have flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately.
• Must consistently demonstrate a positive, friendly, respectful and caring attitude with colleagues, the public, and all one serves in word and deed.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the general public.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

• Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and registered member of a Catholic parish faith community is preferred (for some teaching positions this is required; consult with the school principal).

• Establishes a consistent classroom management approach that promotes self-direction and a positive self-image.
• Sets high standards for student behavior and manages inappropriate behavior effectively, in accordance with school policy.
• Participates in continuous professional development as a lifelong learner.
