About The Position

Rochester School District is seeking a Social Studies Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. This position requires a Washington State Teacher Certification with the appropriate endorsement. Preference may be given to candidates with multiple endorsement areas or those who qualify to teach College in the High School courses. The teacher will be responsible for making short and long-range plans, providing for individual student differences, creating a positive classroom climate, monitoring student performance, and giving feedback. They will also interact positively with students, colleagues, parents, and the community, and may direct student teachers and volunteers. Handling student discipline, attendance, and school rule enforcement are also part of the role. Collaboration within a professional learning community, maintaining ethical behavior, and participating in staff development and school improvement activities are expected. The position also includes performing other duties as assigned by the building administrator.

Requirements

  • Washington State Teacher Certification with appropriate endorsement
  • Knowledge of subject matter in classroom instruction
  • Candidates should be able to teach the full social studies curriculum
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Make short and long-range plans for each subject area of instruction
  • Provide for individual differences in the learning needs of students
  • Provide a classroom climate that is based on mutual respect, rapport, fairness and consistency
  • Monitor student performance and be adaptable to current curriculum needs
  • Give students prompt and meaningful feedback on their performance
  • Inform parents of student progress in terms of grade-level expectations
  • Interact positively with students, colleagues, parents and community members
  • Direct student teachers, educational assistants, student tutors and parent volunteers when such personnel are utilized
  • Handle student discipline and attendance problems and assist with the enforcement of all school rules
  • Work collaboratively with co-workers , as part of a professional learning community
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality about students
  • Perform job-related, non-teaching duties
  • Participate in staff development activities
  • Participate in school improvement and parent involvement activities
  • Perform other such duties as assigned by the building administrator
