About The Position

This position involves teaching the district-approved curriculum (Mi-STAR) to high school students. The teacher will be responsible for creating a safe and respectful classroom environment, employing various instructional techniques and technology to engage learners, and establishing clear lesson objectives. The role also includes using diverse assessment methods, taking a trauma-sensitive approach, and maintaining professional communication with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues. Accurate record-keeping is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university required
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a RX or CX endorsement or on an alternative path/route to obtain the required endorsement(s)
Must be highly qualified as defined by the Michigan State Dept. of Education
Experience working with at-risk youth
High degree of technology skills (Google Suite)
Willingness to learn the tenants of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS/RTI) and Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)
Desire to collaborate with peers and work as a team

Responsibilities

Teaches district approved curriculum (Mi-STAR)

Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons and units
Uses a variety of formative and summative assessments
Takes a trauma-sensitive approach when working with students
Communicates professionally to students, parents/guardians, and colleagues
Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
Other duties as assigned by building administrator
