About The Position

A Pre-kindergarten teacher assistant's job description includes a variety of tasks, such as classroom preparation, student support, lesson planning, classroom management, communication, professionalism, school participation, meal preparation, and cleaning.

Requirements

  • Having 48 college credit hours -or- Paraprofessional Certificate from Oklahoma State Board of Education -or- take and Pass the Paraprofessional Test with at least a Bronze Level

Responsibilities

  • Setting up the classroom for lessons, helping with materials, and keeping the classroom clean and organized
  • Working with individual students and small groups, helping with special needs, and monitoring behavior
  • Assisting with planning and implementing lesson plans and activities
  • Helping to maintain order in the classroom, and intervening when necessary
  • Communicating with the teacher about student needs, and attending meetings
  • Displaying ethical and professional behavior, and protecting student confidentiality
  • Participating in school activities, such as parent nights and home visits
  • Helping with meal preparation, including ordering food, cutting fruit and vegetables, and setting the table
  • Assisting with basic cleaning duties, such as dusting, washing equipment, and cleaning painting boards
