About The Position

The Teacher, Restorative Classroom Specialist will implement the school site Restorative Classroom Program to effectively meet both the academic and behavioral needs of students designated to the districtwide program at school sites. This role involves teaching students assigned to the program, creating a conducive learning environment, and facilitating restorative practices and social-emotional skill development.

Requirements

  • Valid California teaching credential, authorizing service in the area of assignment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with adolescent at-risk youth
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents, and to respect confidential matters

  • Evidence of California multiple subjects teaching credential
  • Complete contact information for three (3) professional references
  • Proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license (for some positions)
  • Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice
  • Verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter
  • Complete and accurate list of every school district, county office of education, charter school, and/or state special school (Local Educational Agencies (LEA)) where the applicant has previously worked, regardless of the length of service, including full-time, part-time and substitute employment.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches students assigned to Restorative Classroom program in their currently assigned course of instruction
  • Communicates with student's regular schedule of teachers regarding assignments and instruction
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to effective learning and behavior objectives
  • Assists site administration in the implementation of the district's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) within the school
  • Facilitates restorative practices paradigm with students and staff including the use of affective statements, affective questions, circle structures, formal conferencing and reintegration of identified students following behavioral incidents
  • Facilitates the acquisition of social/emotional skills for identified students
  • Facilitates student goal setting and self-efficacy to develop motivation for learning and success
  • Participates in the school Professional Learning Communities as assigned by site administration
  • Develops and maintains a system of student record keeping related to the program
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss the student's academic and behavioral progress
  • Confers with students, parents, teachers and other staff as needed
  • Participates in District, county and state meetings and trainings as needed or directed by site administration
  • Contributes news items of the program to bulletins and other communications from the school
  • Models personal and professional values of equity, integrity, caring, collaboration, personal and collective accountability
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
