About The Position

The Archdiocese of St. Louis strives to teach and share our faith, serve others, and foster unity throughout the St. Louis area. Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. The PSR (Parish School of Religion) Teacher provides faith formation to children and/or youth enrolled in the parish religious education program. This role helps students deepen their understanding of Catholic doctrine, Sacred Scripture, the sacraments, and Church traditions while fostering a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and encouraging active participation in the life of the Church.

Requirements

Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church (preferred or required, depending on parish and diocesan policy).
Knowledge of Catholic doctrine, Scripture, sacraments, and traditions.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, volunteers, and parish staff.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prepare lessons and manage a classroom effectively.
Commitment to serving as a positive Christian role model.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with children or youth through teaching, tutoring, coaching, or volunteer ministry is preferred.

Responsibilities

Teach weekly religion classes for assigned grade level(s) (Kindergarten through 8th grade and/or high school).
Prepare and deliver engaging lesson plans using the parish- and diocesan-approved curriculum and instructional materials.
Present Catholic teachings, Scripture, sacraments, prayer, and moral values in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.
Foster a respectful, welcoming, and faith-filled classroom environment that supports student learning and spiritual growth.
Lead students in prayer and model Christian values through words and actions.
Assist in preparing students for the reception of the sacraments, including First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation, as assigned.
Maintain accurate attendance records and communicate student progress, concerns, or behavioral issues with the Director of Religious Education (DRE) and parents/guardians as appropriate.
Ensure compliance with diocesan safe environment policies and child protection requirements.
Participate in catechist meetings, formation opportunities, required training sessions, retreats, and parish religious education events.
Support the mission of the parish by promoting Catholic values and encouraging student participation in parish life and liturgical celebrations.
