About The Position

This role involves exercising general professional duties as a teacher within a school, under the reasonable direction of the Principal. The teacher will be responsible for planning and preparing courses and lessons, teaching assigned pupils according to their educational needs, and assessing, recording, and reporting on pupil progress. The position also requires promoting the general progress and well-being of pupils, providing advice and guidance, communicating with parents, and participating in relevant meetings. The role includes contributing to staff development, maintaining discipline and health and safety, preparing pupils for public examinations, and participating in administrative and organizational tasks. This is a maternity cover position.

Requirements

  • Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Minimum of two years’ demonstrable paid experience of teaching within the Foundation Stage (by the time of appointment) to achieve positive learning outcomes within the past seven years.
  • Demonstrable experience of using a range of effective classroom strategies to provide support and challenge children and young people of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs.
  • Demonstrable experience of using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
  • Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of pupils.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology systems such as digital classroom tools/media and the use of tablets/mobile technologies.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.
  • Effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and challenge pupils to raise achievement.
  • Proven ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Ability to use initiative, solve problems and be flexible.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team, and to motivate self and others.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise general professional duties as circumstances require, under the reasonable direction of the Principal.
  • Perform particular duties as reasonably assigned by the Principal.
  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
  • Teach assigned pupils according to their educational needs, setting and marking work.
  • Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of pupils.
  • Promote the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and assigned classes/groups.
  • Provide advice and guidance to pupils on educational, social matters, further education, and future careers.
  • Make records and reports on the personal and social needs of pupils.
  • Communicate and consult with the parents of pupils.
  • Communicate and co-operate with external persons or bodies approved by the employing authority and Board of Governors.
  • Participate in meetings arranged for the purposes described above.
  • Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports, and references relating to pupils.
  • Participate in staff development and performance review schemes.
  • Review teaching methods and programmes of work.
  • Participate in further training and professional development.
  • Advise and co-operate with the Principal and other teachers on curriculum, teaching materials, programmes, methods, and pastoral arrangements.
  • Maintain good order and discipline among pupils and safeguard their health and safety.
  • Participate in school meetings related to the curriculum, administration, organization, and pastoral arrangements.
  • Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for public examinations and assessing them.
  • Contribute to the selection and professional development of other teachers, including induction and assessment of probationary teachers.
  • Co-ordinate or manage the work of other teachers.
  • Contribute to the review, development, and management of curriculum, organization, and pastoral functions.
  • Participate in administrative and organizational tasks, including managing support staff and ordering equipment.
  • Attend assemblies.
  • Register pupil attendance and supervise pupils before, during, or after school sessions.
  • Supervise and teach any pupils whose teacher is not available, subject to specific conditions regarding cover.
