About The Position

This role involves exercising general and particular professional duties as a teacher in a school, under the reasonable direction of the principal. Key responsibilities include planning and preparing courses and lessons, teaching assigned pupils according to their educational needs, and assessing, recording, and reporting on pupil progress. The role also requires promoting the general progress and well-being of pupils, providing advice and guidance on educational and social matters, and communicating with parents and external bodies. Teachers are expected to participate in staff development, review teaching methods, and contribute to the development of courses and teaching materials. Maintaining good order and discipline, safeguarding pupil health and safety, and participating in meetings related to the school's curriculum and organization are also crucial. Additionally, the role involves preparing pupils for public examinations, contributing to the selection and development of other teachers, and undertaking administrative and organizational tasks. A full-time teacher is expected to be available for 195 days a year, with no more than 190 days involving classroom teaching, and to perform duties for 1,265 hours annually, exclusive of preparation and travel time. Teachers may also be required to provide cover for absent colleagues under specific conditions.

Requirements

• Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach Art in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
• Hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification which has prepared the applicant to teach Art as his/her main subject.
• Minimum of one year's demonstrable experience of teaching Art at Key Stage 4 to achieve positive learning outcomes.
• Demonstrable experience of using a range of teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of pupils.
• Demonstrable experience of using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
• Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
• Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum.
• Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
• Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
• Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of pupils.
• Knowledge of Information Technology systems such as digital classroom tools/media and the use of tablets/mobile technologies.
• Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.
• Effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and challenge pupils to raise achievement.
• Proven ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
• Ability to work as an effective member of a team, and to motivate self and others.
• Evidence of how your experience and approach to work reflect the School’s Values/ethos.

Responsibilities

• Take part in the review, development, and management of curriculum, organization, and pastoral functions.
• Participate in administrative and organizational tasks, including supervision of support staff and ordering of equipment.
• Attend assemblies.
• Register pupil attendance and supervise pupils.
• Supervise and teach pupils whose teacher is not available, subject to specific conditions regarding cover.
• Promote good relations, equality of opportunity, and pay due regard for equality legislation.
