Anticipated Teacher – Orton-Gillingham Specialist
About The Position
The Teacher Orton-Gillingham Specialist reports to the Principal and provides specialized, structured literacy instruction using Orton-Gillingham principles and practices. This role involves planning and delivering individualized and small-group structured literacy instruction, applying Orton-Gillingham methodology and multisensory instructional strategies to support students with language-based learning needs. The specialist will develop and adapt lessons based on student needs, learning profiles, and progress, while monitoring, assessing, and documenting student progress and maintaining accurate records. This position also requires implementing student IEP goals, accommodations, and instructional recommendations, and collaborating with teachers, related service providers, and administrators to support student learning. Communication with parents and participation in IEP meetings, staff meetings, professional development, and other school activities are also key components of this role. The specialist will maintain a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment and support the mission, philosophy, policies, and educational goals of The Newgrange School. Other related duties as assigned by the Principal or Administration.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid New Jersey instructional certificate or Statement of Eligibility appropriate to the position.
- Knowledge and experience with structured literacy and multisensory instructional practices.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- NJDOE-required fingerprinting and criminal history clearance.
Nice To Haves
- Orton-Gillingham training and/or certification from a recognized Orton-Gillingham organization.
- Experience working with students with dyslexia and/or language-based learning differences.
Responsibilities
