About The Position

The role of an Induction Instructional Coach is that of a mentor and professional developer. The Coach develops sustaining and thoughtful mentoring relationships with assigned participating teachers using a combination of support and assessment strategies guiding the participating teachers through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Learning to Teach System resulting in the recommendation of a clear teaching credential. The Induction Instructional Coach serves as a professional developer embedding current educational research into the work with teachers in order to advance student learning.

Requirements

  • Valid California Teaching Credential
  • Minimum five years of successful teaching experience - Permanent Status Preferred
  • Experience in general and/or special education at the elementary and/or secondary level
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal professional growth and learning
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity in society, including diverse abilities, culture, language, ethnic and gender orientation
  • Knowledge of California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP)
  • Knowledge of State-adopted content standards, frameworks and accountability systems
  • Knowledge of Formative Assessment
  • Knowledge of Adult learning theory and effective professional development practices
  • Knowledge of Communication, Collaboration, and Consultation Skills
  • Knowledge of Leadership and management skills
  • Knowledge of Best practices related to Curriculum, Adaptations, and Materials
  • Knowledge of Data-driven instruction and decision-making
  • Knowledge of Social, academic, and behavioral intervention

Responsibilities

  • Commitment to work and communicate with each Participating Teacher weekly
  • Focus on supporting Participating Teachers to improve student achievement
  • Provide both leadership and support for each Participating Teacher in meeting program requirements through formative assessment activities leading to completing of the Professional Credential
  • Plan and lead Professional Development workshops
  • Participate in ongoing professional training to acquire the knowledge and skills in order to be an effective coach
  • Willingness and ability to travel to other sites/districts for meetings and trainings
  • Represent the District and Program in a professional manner
  • Maintain confidentiality about each Participating Teacher assigned
  • Work collaboratively with Participating Teachers, Administrators, and other key stakeholders
  • Communicate on a regular basis with site administrators
  • Maintains and submits all appropriate written documentation
  • Maintains high level of professionalism in all communication
  • Meets required timelines and deadlines
  • Uses a variety of observation tools to collect classroom data
  • Uses active listening, reflective questioning, paraphrasing, and clarifying skills
