About The Position

The Bethel School District is seeking teacher applicants who have the potential to be leaders and innovative educators. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to deliver instruction based upon best available research and practices in teaching and learning. The Secondary English Language Arts teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) will work collaboratively with the Teaching and Learning Directors and TOSAs. The TOSA will work closely with HS ELA classroom teachers, department leaders, and building administrators. Responsibilities will include facilitating curriculum alignment, supporting schools with using common assessments and data, mentoring early career teachers and instructional support. The Secondary English Language Arts TOSA will be an essential member of the Secondary Teaching and Learning Department.

Requirements

  • Valid and appropriate certification.
  • 5+ years of successful English Language Arts teaching experience.
  • Experience on state and/or district instructional committees.
  • Experience in leadership activities.
  • Ability to articulate ideas and communicate well with others.
  • Ability to organize ideas, coordinate multiple tasks and materials to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to organize time and commit to a flexible work schedule.
  • Experience collaborating with teachers and administration around instructional practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree and/or National Board Certification preferred.
  • Extensive background in instructional strategies, classroom management strategies, assessments, and deep knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for ELA.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Secondary Teaching and Learning Director in continued alignment of the CCSS with district curriculum including developing and refining curriculum guides.
  • Work with grade level and department leaders on implementing the Common Core State Standards.
  • Develop with teachers common assessments and rubrics for each course.
  • Assist teachers and schools in using assessment data to inform instruction and school improvement plans.
  • Facilitate teachers' use of best practices in instruction; this includes a strong focus on standards-based culturally responsive instruction and inclusionary practices.
  • Support data driven instructional decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Teaching and Learning to facilitate curriculum adoptions.
  • Support departmental PLCs.
  • Attend professional development at district and state level to maintain understanding and awareness of current research in English Language Arts instruction and state initiatives.
  • Build learning, collegial relationships with individual staff members.
  • Collaborate and calibrate with other TOSAs from the Teaching and Learning department to support goals.
  • Attend planning meetings with other coaches and the district Teaching and Learning department.
  • Provide professional development planning and facilitation for classroom teachers in a variety of settings.
  • Effectively manage projects and time with clear outcome and results.
  • Perform other duties/tasks as assigned by supervisor.
