About The Position

The Accelerated Schools (TAS) is seeking a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) - Special Education to support the implementation, coordination, and monitoring of special education services across school sites. This role operates under the direction of the Director of Access, Equity and Compliance (DAEC) or a designated administrator. The TOSA will ensure compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), California Education Code, and SELPA policies, while also assisting teachers and staff in the effective implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This position is not an administrative role but focuses on providing instructional and programmatic support to ensure high-quality special education services for students. TAS is committed to preparing over 1,700 TK-12 students for success in college, career, and life through an innovative, equitable, and compassionate approach that empowers students to take ownership of their learning. The school utilizes research-based practices like project-based learning, student choice, self-direction, and mentoring, and embraces Restorative Practices and Circles for behavior support.

Requirements

  • Clear Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience teaching in a special education setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA, California special education regulations, and SELPA procedures.
  • Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
  • Experience providing instructional coaching or leading professional development.
  • Experience supporting inclusive practices and collaboration between general and special education staff.

Responsibilities

  • Carry and case manage a caseload of approximately 10 high-needs students, providing individualized support, progress monitoring, and coordination of services to ensure academic and behavioral success.
  • Support implementation of special education programs and services across assigned school site(s).
  • Assist with the development, review, and quality assurance of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Support special education teachers in implementing accommodations, modifications, and instructional strategies aligned with student IEPs.
  • Participate in IEP meetings to provide guidance regarding instructional practices and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with monitoring IEP timelines for assessments, meetings, and service delivery.
  • Support adherence to federal and state special education laws, including IDEA and the California Education Code.
  • Assist with preparation for compliance monitoring, audits, and oversight reviews.
  • Support documentation and record maintenance in special education data systems such as Welligent or other IEP management systems.
  • Monitor service minutes and program implementation to ensure alignment with IEP requirements.
  • Support professional development related to special education practices, compliance requirements, and inclusive instructional strategies.
  • Assist general education teachers with strategies to support students with disabilities in inclusive classroom settings.
  • Assist with the coordination of special education assessments and evaluation timelines.
  • Support multidisciplinary teams in gathering and reviewing student data related to assessments and eligibility determinations.
  • Provide guidance on progress monitoring and data collection aligned with IEP goals.
  • Collaborate with compliance coordinator, teachers, related service providers, and support staff to ensure coordinated services for students with disabilities.
  • Support communication between school staff and families regarding special education processes and services.
  • Participate in problem-solving teams and student support meetings.
