About The Position

Under the immediate direction and supervision of the Director of Special Education and Building Principal, this position provides the necessary knowledge and guidance in the planning, coordination and implementation of Student Services programming, special projects or other duties directly related to this position description. This role promotes the ongoing growth and development of staff in the District’s Special Education projects or programs, identifies, encourages and provides on-site staff development and instructional coaching support to ensure that teachers are knowledgeable about program components and understand the accountability aspects toward a high performing program. It also facilitates and maintains communication between District, building teams, families, and school staff regarding information about the assigned Student Services provision of services, projects, or programs. The position represents the District, Special Education and school site(s) as necessary and provides knowledge and guidance in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the particular assignment. It plans and facilitates necessary meetings as related to specific assignment(s), and is responsible to support teams to develop and implement special education programming, including IEP programming development, as assigned by the Special Education administrative team. The role motivates project/program participants to develop skills and attitudes that foster success, provides Special Education staff and families information for applicable resources to ensure programming meet the specialized need of students, and assists teachers in maintaining a classroom atmosphere/environment conducive to learning and highest student achievement. It provides instructional support to the school community in the full implementation of the assigned projects or programs, collaborates in the development and facilitation of professional development training and activities, and keeps abreast of current research applicable to the assigned projects or programs. Finally, it ensures compliance with District, State, and Federal requirements for timelines, documentation, and programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with appropriate educational endorsement and five years successful teaching experience; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
  • Must maintain all licenses and certifications as a condition of continued employment.
  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate or ESA certificate.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Special Education endorsement.
  • Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
  • Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques.
  • Skill in decision-making and problem solving.
  • Skill in classroom management.
  • Skill in handling student discipline.
  • Effective time management and priority-setting skills.
  • Skill in obtaining, clarifying, and exchanging information.
  • Skill in training and making presentations.

  • Regular, reliable, predictable attendance and in-person presence is an essential job requirement and critical to the performance of the work.
