This position is an anticipated vacancy, expected to be vacant by 06/30/2026. The current incumbent has a right to rescind their retirement, leave, or resignation up until the expected vacancy date. Hire confirmation is contingent upon the position becoming vacant, and the start may be as a Long-Term Substitute if the position is not vacated by the school year's start. This school is designated as underperforming by the State of Massachusetts. Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional, highly qualified, and knowledgeable Music Teacher to join its community. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Music (All Levels).
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and "Highly Qualified" according to NCLB.
  • Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching in urban schools.
  • Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Cabo Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.
  • Certified in Moderate Disabilities.
  • Certified in English as a Second Language (at the appropriate grade level(s)).

Responsibilities

  • Teach Music Core Competencies using the Rubric of Effective Teaching.
  • Set ambitious learning goals for all students, create cognitively demanding tasks, and foster the belief that all students can master challenging material through effective effort.
  • Regularly assess students’ understanding with ambitious learning goals in mind and take ownership of making necessary adjustments to instruction to reach goals despite setbacks.
  • Demonstrate mastery of and enthusiasm for the content area and the pedagogy it requires.
  • Demonstrate understanding of how the subject matter applies in real-world settings and connects to other content areas and relevant standards.
  • Convey content in creative and engaging ways that align to standards.
  • Scaffold and differentiate instruction to enable all students to engage in complex thinking and rigorous academic work.
  • Utilize instructional practices that challenge, motivate, and engage all students, facilitating equitable, active participation.
  • Build a productive learning environment where every student participates and is valued.
  • Actively create and maintain an environment where students’ diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected.
  • Engage with families and build collaborative, respectful relationships in service of student learning.
  • Regularly reflect on practice, seek and respond to feedback, and demonstrate self-awareness and commitment to continuous learning and development.
  • Participate in and contribute to a collaborative adult learning community.
