About The Position

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a full-time teacher to instruct 6th and 8th grade English Language Arts. This position involves planning, organizing, and delivering engaging learning activities and a supportive classroom environment to foster students' intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The role requires adherence to district and state curriculum, policies, and initiatives aimed at student achievement. The teacher will assess student progress, provide feedback, and collaborate with specialists and parents to support student welfare and development.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university with appropriate educational endorsement.
Valid Washington State teaching certificate.
Completion of all District-required trainings, as assigned.
Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
Knowledge of applicable Washington State and Federal rules and regulations.
Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to assignment.
Knowledge of and skills in using various formative and summative assessments.
Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques.
Skill in obtaining, clarifying and exchanging information.
Skill in critical thinking and problem solving.

Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, and provides students with appropriate learning activities, experiences, and a classroom environment designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth.

Develops, plans and strategizes a program of study based on student learning needs, and meets individual needs, interests and abilities.

Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media to engage students.
Assesses student accomplishments and growth regularly, providing progress reports and grades.
Refers students for evaluation by District Specialists as needed.

Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
Supervises Para Educators and other classroom office assistance.
Develops and maintains professional and collegial relationships with colleagues.
Collaborates with peers and administrators to improve student learning.
Adheres to Tacoma Public School Board policies.
Contributes to the development of new teachers and student teachers.
Maintains files on latest curriculum guides and stays updated on resources and methods.
Performs related duties as assigned.
