About The Position

This is a CTE Teacher position at Baker Middle School. The role involves planning, organizing, and providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in a classroom environment designed to foster intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will support the School/Building, School Board, District, and State curriculum, policies, and initiatives for student achievement. This position requires a valid Washington state CTE teaching certificate endorsed in STEM Technologies and additional endorsements as needed to support courses in Exploring Technology and Robotics. CTE Teacher Certification and maintenance of a current CPR/First Aid/AED card are requirements for this position and a condition of employment. If a candidate does not hold a valid WA state CTE teaching certificate, they are expected to enroll and successfully complete the required course of study for CTE teacher certification within 2 years.

Requirements

  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate.
  • Completion of all District-required trainings, as assigned.
  • Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans, and strategizes a program of study based on student learning needs, meeting individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media to engage students and provide opportunities for participation.
  • Assesses student growth regularly and provides progress reports.
  • Maintains and issues appropriate grades to reflect student achievement.
  • Refers students for evaluation by District Specialists as needed.
  • Provides guidance to promote student welfare, educational development, and citizenship.

  • Conducts parent/guardian conferences and meetings to communicate student progress and interpret program rationale.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and District policy.
  • Utilizes multiple data elements (formative and summative assessments) to plan and adjust instruction.
  • Evaluates student learning and success criteria to modify and improve program effectiveness.
  • Uses Washington State approved student growth rubrics for tracking student growth data.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Provides for and promotes the care and protection of students and school property.
  • Supervises students in various school settings (lunchroom, hallways, school grounds, sanctioned programs).
  • Effectively utilizes and provides access to community and District resources to enhance student learning.
  • Maintains and updates knowledge and skills through professional development activities and training.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
  • Supervises Para Educators and other classroom office assistance.
  • Provides guidance and works with staff members.
  • Develops and maintains professional and collegial relationships with colleagues.
  • Collaborates with peers and administrators to improve student learning.
  • Supports appropriate conduct and performance of job duties.
  • Adheres to Tacoma Public School Board policies.
  • Contributes to the development of new teachers and student teachers.
  • Maintains files on latest curriculum guides.
  • Keeps updated on resources and methods and makes relevant changes to instructional plans.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, predictable attendance.
