About The Position

This is a CTE Teacher position at Baker Middle School. The role involves planning, organizing, and providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to fulfill their potential. The teacher will support the School/Building, School Board, District, and State curriculum, policies, and initiatives for student achievement. The position requires a valid Washington state CTE teaching certificate endorsed in Communication Technologies, STEM Technologies, and additional endorsements as needed for Digital Broadcasting courses. CTE Teacher Certification and maintenance of a current CPR/First Aid/AED card are requirements for employment. If a candidate does not hold a valid WA state CTE teaching certificate, they are expected to enroll and complete the required course of study for CTE teacher certification within 2 years, with an approximate cost of $3000.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university with appropriate educational endorsement
  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate
  • Completion of all District-required trainings, as assigned
  • Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance
  • Knowledge of applicable Washington State and Federal rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to assignment

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans, and strategizes a program of study based on student learning needs, meeting individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.

  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Utilizes multiple data elements (formative and summative assessment) to plan, inform, and provide other formative assessment opportunities by adjusting instruction.
  • Evaluates student learning and success criteria to modify and improve program effectiveness.
  • Uses Washington State approved student growth rubrics for tracking student growth data.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Provides for and promotes the care and protection of students and school property.
  • Supervises students in lunchroom, hallways, school grounds, and in any program held at the school under School District sanction.
  • Effectively utilizes and provides access to community and District resources to enhance student learning and teacher effectiveness.
  • Maintains and updates knowledge and skills for success in the position and improving professional competence by participating in professional development activities and training.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
  • Supervises Para Educators and other classroom office assistance as required.
  • Provides guidance and works with staff members appropriately.
  • Develops and maintains professional and collegial relationships with colleagues.
  • Collaborates with peers and administrators to improve student learning.
  • Supports appropriate conduct and performance of job duties.
  • Adheres to Tacoma Public School Board policies.
  • Contributes to the development of new teachers and student teachers per District guidelines.
  • Maintains files on latest curriculum guides.
  • Keeps updated on resources and methods and makes relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.
  • Performs related duties as assigned, on a temporary basis.
