About The Position

This posting is in anticipation of an increase in student FTE at the middle school level upon the start of the school year and will only be filled if required. If FTE is not higher than anticipated, the position will be closed without being filled. The role involves centering instruction on high expectations for student achievement, demonstrating effective teaching practices, recognizing and addressing individual student learning needs, fostering and managing a safe and positive learning environment, using multiple student data elements to modify instruction, and collaborating with parents and the school community. The teacher will also exhibit and engage in collegial practices, contribute to PLC/Data Teams, and coordinate with counselors and paraeducators.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or post-graduate work in English Language Arts or Math.
Valid Washington State teaching certificate with endorsement in Elementary Education, English Language Arts, or Math.
Demonstrated understanding of research-based instructional strategies and assessment practices that support effective instruction.
Recent successful experience working with educators in demonstrating and modeling effective instructional strategies and assessment practices.
Demonstrated knowledge of needs of diverse learners and strategies for addressing these needs.
Understanding of appropriate local and state standards.
Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff and district patrons.
Evidence/demonstration of use of technology to enhance student learning or willingness to learn.
Demonstrated organizational skills and commitment to follow through on tasks.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with students, teachers, school administrators, support personnel, and community members.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

Centering instruction on high expectation for student achievement by communicating expectations verbally and in writing for learning and achievement, consistently conveying rigorous expectations to students and parents, demonstrating how results impact daily instruction, and conducting learning activities that are aligned to lesson objectives and priority standards.
Demonstrating effective teaching practices by effectively utilizing research based instructional practices, aligning instructional behaviors with best practices of the learning process, remaining current in content related pedagogy, structuring and pacing to the appropriate level of the learners, utilizing questioning that requires higher level thinking skills, clearly articulating directions and teaching necessary procedures in order for students to be successful, and effectively modifying curriculum and differentiating instructional practices to support student learning.
Recognizing individual student learning needs and developing strategies to address those needs by knowing and utilizing intervention strategies under the appropriate conditions, differentiating the learning activities to address the developmental characteristics of his/her students, demonstrating a persistent attitude that all students can learn, communicating the individual needs of students, communicating clear learning targets, providing a student friendly lesson and unit structure, ensuring instructional materials and resources are aligned and appropriate for the learning target, and activating prior knowledge to support learning.
Fostering and managing a safe, positive learning environment by establishing positive relationships with all students, consistently monitoring student behavior and rewarding and correcting frequently in a respectful manner, and organizing the environment and the lesson to the extent that transitions between activities do not take away from instructional time.
Using multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve student learning by using data to modify instruction as appropriate, assessing student learning multiple times throughout a lesson, instructing students to self-assess and monitor their own progress, frequently asking students to reflect on their own learning, and using a variety of formative assessments.
Communicating and Collaborating with parents and school community by initiating communication with parents beyond the mandatory reporting requirements, communicating important aspects of the instructional program to parents in order to engage them with their child's education, and providing meaningful information to parents about individual students.
Exhibiting, collaborating and engaging in collegial practices by contributing to the PLC/Data Team on a regular basis, consistently seeking ways to improve, demonstrating the ability to make decisions in the best interest of students, maintaining a positive relationship with his or her peers under all circumstances, consulting with counselor/psychologist and designated staff to solve and plan interventions for children, and coordinating and training paraeducators as necessary in literacy curriculum.
