About The Position

The Teacher Librarian will provide each student with an enriched learning environment and collaborate with teachers to support literacy, inquiry, research, and the appreciation and enjoyment of literature. This role is for the 2026-2027 school year at Riverdale Heights Elementary.

Requirements

  • K-8 Elementary School Teacher Librarian and/or K-12 School Teacher Librarian endorsement required
  • As set by state certification standards

Responsibilities

  • Establishes a collaborative working relationship with teachers, administrators, and staff.
  • Works with the classroom teacher to promote the integration and acquisition of the inquiry process into curricular content.
  • Promotes critical thinking, engagement with information in all of its forms, and the use of technology to enhance learning.
  • Participates in a district collaborative team with the other teacher-librarians to foster professional growth.
  • Assists teachers and students in the selection of appropriate materials for research and units of study.
  • Informs teachers and students of new materials and encourages their circulation through book talks and other promotional opportunities.
  • Provides recommendations and book selection guidance to students and encourages interest in personal reading to enhance their literature background.
  • Provides materials for the professional growth of the faculty.
  • Communicate library program plans, needs and accomplishments to stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Provides support to the building technology program.
  • Evaluates, selects, and orders new library materials including print and non-print resources to meet the diverse needs of students and staff.
  • Maintains the library management system and instructs teachers and students on the use of the system.
  • Maintains a current inventory of library materials.
  • Allocates the library budget.
  • Weeds obsolete and worn materials from the collection.
  • Evaluates the library program, services, and materials in terms of adequacy to curricular needs, student needs, community needs, and state and national standards.
  • Facilitates use of the library space throughout the day, including scheduled classes.
  • Creates a welcoming and learner-centered environment and promotes appropriate conduct of students using the library.
  • Participates on curriculum evaluation committees, as assigned.
  • Trains and supervises library aides and volunteers, where appropriate.
  • Is encouraged to actively participate in the local, regional, state and national library professional associations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the building principal.
