About The Position

This position is a temporary role located at the Los Padres Head Start Center in the Santa Maria area. The hourly rate ranges from $25.00 to $27.80. Requirements

Teacher II: Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or a related field and eligible for a Child Development Teacher permit or higher from California Commission on Teacher Credentialing with three semester units in supervised field experience. Six (6) infant and toddler units required.
Teacher III: Bachelor's Degree or higher with 12 units of Early Childhood Education/Child Development and eligible for a Child Development Master Teacher permit or higher from California Commission on Teacher Credentialing with three semester units in supervised field experience and one year of experience as an Early Childhood Teacher. Six (6) infant and toddler units required.
Knowledge of Internet software and Word Processing software.
Obtain and maintain a current Child Development Permit for position held.
Must obtain and maintain a Pediatric First Aid and CPR card.
Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination.
Obtain a tuberculosis clearance and clear Community Care Licensing fingerprint process.
Provide verification of State required vaccines upon hire for: Influenza (from August 1 to December 1), Pertussis, and Measles. Acceptable verifications include immunization record and physician statement.

Responsibilities

Maintain 100% supervision of all children by sight and sound at all times when in the teacher/child ratio.
Plan high quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences with the team teacher.
Carry out a bilingual, multicultural, anti-bias curriculum designed to meet children’s developmental needs within program guidelines.
Develop positive relationships with each child and parent.
Maintain an indoor and outdoor classroom environment consistent with Head Start/Child Development, Licensing and Agency standards.
Maintain the confidentiality of records and information of enrolled families.
Assist children with self-care needs such as tooth brushing, diapering, toileting, hand washing and wiping noses.
Maintain a physically safe environment and clean well-organized equipment and learning materials indoors and out.
Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings and curriculum planning meetings.
Plan monthly/weekly curriculum with team teacher that scaffolds children’s development.
Work on a regular basis with the team teacher to plan and evaluate individualization of the curriculum and behavior plans if applicable.
Be responsible for large group three times a week and a small group (primary language) daily.
Plan and carry out transition activities for children who are entering or leaving the class/center.
Maintain narrative records on each child related to their development.
Complete required paper and electronic records in a timely manner.
Assume responsibility for maintenance of required assessments and screenings.
Attend IEP (Individual Education Plan) meetings for special needs children with consultants, school district personnel and parents as required.
Attend parent meetings upon request.
Provide daily on-going communication with parents regarding children’s activities, development, and special needs.
Make at least 2 home visits and two parent conferences with each assigned child's family annually. Make special efforts to include fathers.
Participate with supervisors and managers in the evaluation and ongoing improvement of the program’s effectiveness.
Carry out responsibilities of staff supervision, licensing requirements and overall center operations when the Site Supervisor is away from the center.
Consistently use positive child guidance methods.
Be available for pre-arranged evening or weekend home visits, meetings, or special events to meet the needs of working families.
Be aware of all center’s children with food allergies, and ensure they receive the doctor recommended substitutions.
Be sensitive to children with special needs.
Function as a positive team member. Communicate effectively with families and co-workers.
Perform other comparable related duties as required.
