Requirements

Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in child development or early childhood education, or equivalent coursework.
Two years of experience working with preschool-aged children preferred.
Emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with program aims, respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health that does not interfere with responsibilities.
Ability to work independently and provide guidance and direction to team members.
Knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards and Michigan Childcare Licensing Regulations.
Effective in an environment of cultural diversity; comfortable in a collaborative, team-based work setting.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Reliable transportation is required.
Must take a leadership role in the classroom.
Proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment.

Responsibilities

Provide a safe, nurturing learning environment for children and their parents.
Develop and implement individual educational plans for children to foster social, intellectual, physical, and emotional development, ensuring school readiness.
Collaborate with the Assistant Teacher and volunteers, providing active supervision for all children at all times.
Supervise and monitor children, responding appropriately to crisis or emergency situations.
Establish a positive classroom climate.
Guide children's behavior in positive and effective ways.
Follow a consistent schedule including various group experiences, work time, music, movement, motor activities, skill development, meals, and transitions.
Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem-solving, socialization, and choice-making, using open-ended questions to promote thinking skills.
Utilize outdoor time as an extension of the classroom and ensure playground safety.
Release children only to authorized individuals with signed consent.
Plan and implement learning experiences promoting all developmental areas, focusing on school readiness through literacy, phonemic awareness, print awareness, numeric awareness, and language development (including ESL if applicable).
Cooperate with other staff to ensure smooth center functioning, adapting as needed to meet children's needs.
Eat with children, assisting in the development of social and self-help skills, and sound nutritional practices.
Sanitize classroom equipment and toys regularly.
Support families as the primary educators of their children.
Conduct required parent/teacher conferences and home visits for assessment and support, sharing information on classroom and educational strategies.
Adapt lesson plans to meet individual goals for children as identified in ILPs, IEPs, and IFSPs.
Monitor for and report child abuse.
Assist with inventory of equipment and supplies.
Ensure all developmental screenings are completed within 45 days of enrollment.
Use appropriate observation, ongoing assessment, and tracking to ensure positive child outcomes.
Maintain ongoing anecdotal notes to monitor children's individual development.
Input COR notes into the database system within the program's timeline.
Maintain adequate safeguards for the privacy and confidentiality of information.
Complete required documentation of relevant activities and submit records and reports accurately and timely.
Stay abreast of current issues and trends through training and continuing education.
Provide for the physical needs of preschool children, including diapering and potty training.
Fill in where needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
