About The Position

This position involves leading the Band program for Grades 8 through 12, including marching band, jazz band, and competition bands. The role requires planning, preparing, and delivering instructional activities that promote active learning and create an environment conducive to student achievement and the development of lifelong skills. The teacher will maximize student success by fostering positive working relationships, instructing and monitoring students in the use of learning materials and equipment, and demonstrating confidence with new technology and various applications. The position also involves being a role model for lifelong learning and professional behavior, working collaboratively, and being flexible, resourceful, and innovative in designing and executing learning experiences. The teacher will observe and evaluate student performance, encourage and monitor student progress, assign and grade work, manage a budget for the band programs according to district protocols, and assume other responsibilities as determined by their supervising administrator. Professional conduct and a positive public image of the School District are expected.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching certificate.
  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree.
  • Must be Highly Qualified in endorsement area.
  • Must meet certification and endorsement requirements for assignment.
  • Must meet all NCA and Michigan Department of Education requirements.
  • Experience as Director of high school marching band required.
  • Be proficient in the use of technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Be flexible, resourceful, innovative and can effectively manage the design and execution of learning experiences, both formal and informal, that are very responsive to the needs of students and the context in which learning is taking place.
  • Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments and provide appropriate feedback on work.
  • Observe all district protocols to manage a budget for the band programs.
  • Assume other responsibilities as determined by their supervising administrator.
  • Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner commensurate with his/her position and project a good public image of the School District in dealing with the community and employee groups.
