About The Position

The Teacher, Grade 1 - Reading Endorsed position at Skye Ranch School is a full-time role requiring 7.5 hours per day for 10 contract months. The primary job goal is to provide an educational atmosphere that fosters students' intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth and maturation in accordance with District philosophy, goals, and objectives. This involves establishing goals based on student needs and curriculum requirements, planning engaging lessons, identifying and modifying instructional materials, maintaining a positive and safe learning environment, managing time and resources effectively, and instructing volunteers and aides when assigned. The role also includes maintaining record-keeping procedures, using effective behavior management techniques, assisting in the enforcement of school rules and policies, and participating in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Education Plans (EPs), and 504 Plans for exceptional education students. The teacher will develop assessment strategies, interpret data for instructional planning, establish appropriate testing environments, and demonstrate knowledge of subject matter content. They will apply learning principles and effective teaching in instructional delivery, use a multimedia approach, and enhance critical thinking skills. Modifications for students with special needs, providing quality work, recognizing and acting on indicators of student distress or abuse, and instructing on safety procedures are also key responsibilities. Effective communication with professionals, students, parents, and the community, collaboration with peers and parents, and engaging in continuous professional growth through inservice, classes, and study are expected. The teacher will conduct periodic self-assessments for professional development needs, model professional and ethical conduct, perform all professional responsibilities, prepare required reports, maintain records, and support school improvement initiatives. The role ensures continuous and appropriate student growth and achievement and performs other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of the position.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution.
Certified by the State of Florida in appropriate area.
Knowledge of child growth and development and especially of characteristics of children in the age group assigned.
Knowledge of prescribed curriculum.
Knowledge of current educational research.
Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology.
Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles.
Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents and others.
Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness.
Ability to effectively assess levels of student achievement, analyze test results and prescribe actions for improvement.
Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn.
Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators and others.
