The primary function of a teacher is to deliver the district curriculum in multiple ways that increase student learning and achievement. This role involves teaching elementary school students academic, social, and motor skills, preparing class objectives and outlines, and administering student assessments. The teacher will instruct students on rules of conduct, manage the classroom, identify students with academic issues, and communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student performance and behavior. Maintaining records, attendance, and grades is also a key responsibility. The teacher will plan, organize, and deliver differentiated instruction, provide timely feedback, and use strategies that promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking skills. A safe and emotionally supportive learning environment is essential, along with effective communication with staff and administration. Additional duties include assisting with the communication and enforcement of laws and policies, working cooperatively with administration and special education staff, respecting students, parents, guardians, and the community, and assisting parents with concerns. The role also involves assisting in the protection of students and property, aiding in emergency drills, and managing students during dismissal and field trips. Maintaining personal integrity, confidentiality, and a strong work ethic, along with participating in district professional development, are also expected.
