About The Position

The Teacher - ESS position aims to plan, organize, and implement an effective instructional program within a learning environment that fosters student academic potential. This role encompasses departmentalized, Special Education, Elementary, and Secondary Teacher responsibilities, adhering to school board and state policies, including the Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching. The teacher is responsible for managing assigned classes and implementing an educational program that meets student needs.

Requirements

  • A valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate (Type C or Level 1).
  • A bachelor’s degree in field.
  • Additional criteria established by the Board.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and implement instructional programs.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) when appropriate.
  • Manage classroom behavior and create a positive learning environment.
  • Deliver effective instruction, adapting lessons as needed.
  • Assess student progress and provide timely feedback.
  • Grade papers and assignments, and maintain accurate grade records.
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned paraprofessionals.
  • Coordinate and ensure the delivery of special education services.
  • Hold and schedule IEP meetings within expected timelines.
  • Ensure the accuracy of IEPs and maintain progress notes.
  • Provide research-based instruction aligned with IEP goals.
  • Adhere to a daily instructional schedule and provide it to supervisors.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources.
  • Serve as the primary contact for parents/guardians of special education students.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers regarding instruction and student progress.
  • Share student accommodations with general education teachers.
  • Perform other job-related duties as mandated by policy.
  • Complete self-evaluations and develop Professional Growth Plans.
  • Supervise students on campus, including before/after school, during class, recess, lunch, and assemblies.
  • Fulfill duties traditionally expected of teachers, including punctuality and collaboration.
  • Adhere to federal, state, system, and school policies.
  • Conduct conferences with parents as needed.
  • Follow recommendations from administrators and district staff.
  • Participate in continuing in-service programs.
  • Provide for the care and proper usage of school property.
  • Maintain an inventory of assigned items.
  • Attend meetings related to student instruction, faculty, staff, department, PLC, ILT, training sessions, IEP/IAP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, back-to-school events, open houses, graduation, and discipline meetings/hearings.
  • Attend school board/committee meetings upon request.
  • Attend/work up to three co-curricular and other duties beyond regular classroom activities.
  • Attend/work up to three concessions/gates at athletic events.
  • Attend all meetings and functions for sponsored activities, clubs, or groups.
