About The Position

Our Teacher will be responsible for teaching students in the private day school setting in Bristol, VA. We are looking for motivated individuals that desire to effect positive change in young people’s lives. Small classroom sizes, excellent salary, tuition reimbursement, paid holidays, sick leave, 401k, and opportunities for upward mobility. We serve students ages 5 to 22 who need extra support to find success in the classroom and community in locations across Virginia. This role requires driving, therefore a "clean driving record" is critical.

Requirements

• Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement OR content area endorsement.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Safety-Care Certification (Training provided).
• Must have a valid Virginia Drivers’ License, proof of insurance, satisfactory Driving Record (less than 5 demerit points).
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Reckless driving, including speeding 20mph or more over the posted speed limit.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Driving under the influence/impaired/intoxicated or refusing a blood/breath test.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Manslaughter or negligent homicide.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Driving after being declared a habitual offender.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Driving on a suspended or revoked license
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified, under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of .04 or higher, refusing a blood/breath test, or violating an out-of-service order.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Injuring a person while racing - felony.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Failure to stop at the scene of a crash where there is injury, death, or property damage of $1000 or more.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Emergency vehicle violation - death.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Vehicular assault or willful stopping, impeding, or damaging a vehicle.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Blocking access to the service facility.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Attempting to elude police.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Operating an unsafe vehicle.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: Vulnerable Road User – Death.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 3 years: Passing a stopped school bus.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 3 years: Careless driving.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 3 years: Three or more minor moving violations within the last three years.

Nice To Haves

• $2,000 salary increase for renewable Special Education teaching endorsement
• $2,000 salary increase available with a master’s degree

Responsibilities

• Create and implement weekly lesson plans.
• Administer formal and informal assessments to measure student growth and mastery and to evaluate and refine instruction.
• Differentiate instruction effectively to meet the individual needs of students.
• Identify students who are academically at risk and initiate effective intervention strategies.
• Participate actively in professional development.
• Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
• Attend and participate in Community School Committee and various Advisory Committee meetings.
