Boston Green Academy, an innovative “in-district” charter school within the Boston Public Schools, is seeking to hire skilled and inspiring staff who are committed to increasing academic achievement for all students. Located in Brighton, BGA serves over 450 diverse and amazing students in grades 7-12 from all over the City of Boston. Boston Green Academy is seeking an English Language Arts teacher for high school grades (licensed in ELA for grades 8). This position will teach general education and inclusion student classes. The ELA teacher will teach five sections across the day plus Advisory to high school students, serving as part of a grade level and content team that meets regularly and collaboratively. The teacher will be responsible for creating, differentiating, and delivering challenging curriculum, meeting academic needs of students and increasing student achievement. The teacher will also participate in our all-school summer professional development that begins on August 31, 2023. Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional English Teacher with an SEI endorsement who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders. Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English at the appropriate grade level AND either SEI endorsement OR dual certification in ESL.
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
  • Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Dual certification in Special Education (Moderate) preferred and required within one year of hire.
  • Experience teaching in urban schools.
  • Degree in English or related field.
  • BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.
  • In order to best serve all students, BPS prefers all core content teachers to be certified in their subject area and one or both of the following: Moderate Disabilities, English as a Second Language (at the appropriate grade level(s)).

Responsibilities

  • Teach English in an SEI setting
  • Teach content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism using standards-based curriculum guidelines from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education that correlate with appropriate learning activities and district standards.
  • Adapt district curriculum materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
