About The Position

ELA-S Elementary Teachers teach in both Spanish and English appropriate grade level standards based curriculum in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies and Personal Development to diverse elementary students, following District Literacy Program and Everyday Math or other school/District approved curriculum. This position is located at Cole Arts & Science Academy: 1350 E 33rd Ave, Denver, CO 80205

Requirements

Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required.
Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license.
ELA-S ONLY: Must be Bilingual in Spanish and English, required.
ELA-S (English Language Acquisition - Spanish) ONLY: Teaching in both Spanish and English positions, candidates are required to take the Spanish language proficiency (SLP) exam, proctored by Berlitz Testing.

Nice To Haves

A Master's Degree is only required for Concurrent Enrollment positions.
if a teacher has taken, or chooses to take, the Praxis II - Spanish: World Language 5195 exam, it will also work at DPS as an appropriate SLP exam, as long as the candidate scores 163 or higher on the Praxis II (#5195) exam.

Responsibilities

Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rule of conduct and behavior of assigned students and reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
Observes, evaluates, reports, and records student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
Prepares lesson plans and materials according to District approved curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
Presents subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and instructional materials to meet varying needs and learning styles.
Instructs students individually and in groups using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
Prepares, administers, assigns, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
Prepares student, attendance, and activity reports as required by administrators.
Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve student behavior and academic problems.
May participate in extra-duty activities such as coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, as outlined in the Teachers’ Collective Bargaining Agreement and in accordance with Department of Labor regulations.
