About The Position

This position is for an Elementary Art Teacher serving two locations: Woodlawn (0.6 FTE) and Lawrence Virtual School (0.4 FTE), totaling a full-time (1.0 FTE) role. The teacher will provide an effective program of instruction tailored to the needs and capabilities of individual students or student groups. The role involves implementing the district's curriculum, assessing student progress, and fostering a positive learning environment. The teacher will also collaborate with colleagues, communicate with parents, and maintain professional standards.

Requirements

  • Kansas Teaching Certificate/License
  • "Highly qualified" status according to KSDE and federal regulations
  • Ability to speak clearly and audibly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner
  • Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers
  • Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice
  • Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and helpful manner
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software on a district computer system and communication equipment
  • Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines
  • Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others
  • Maintains state certification/licensure standards for teachers in the field for which he/she is assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Builds instruction upon previously learned materials.
  • Uses a variety of teaching materials and techniques as appropriate for the content area and for all students/adults assigned.
  • Provides for regular assessment of student/adult needs and progress.
  • Provides for appropriate re-teaching, adaptation, and/or extensions if needed.
  • Provides evidence of individual student/adult learning.
  • Prepares for assigned classes and can show evidence of such preparation.
  • Demonstrates effective skills in reading, writing, math, and speaking as necessary for the assignment.
  • Demonstrates command of the subject matter for which he/she is assigned to teach/coordinate.
  • Implements the district's written curriculum and the state and district assessment program.
  • Demonstrates commitment to learn and apply new instructional and technology skills as related to the assignment.
  • Works with other members of the staff in planning building or district curriculum, instructional goals, objectives, methods, and assessments.
  • Attends and participates in assigned staff/team meetings.
  • Cooperates with others regarding the selection, use, and sharing of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Establishes and maintains communications with students, parents, colleagues, and others as related to the assignment.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Demonstrates respect and value for all students and staff.
  • Maintains professional and ethical standards.
  • Meets and instructs students/adults at designated location and times.
  • Upholds and enforces school rules, district policies, and administrative regulations.
