About The Position

A full-time, professional academic staff position is available in the Teacher Education Program beginning July 12, 2026. The working title for this assignment is Certification Officer with an official title of Compliance Specialist II. This is a renewable assignment contingent on performance and funding. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Teacher Education Program (TEP) office consists of four people. The TEP office arranges placements for all students pursuing a career in education, works with the Department of Public Instruction to maintain accreditation of our education programs, communicates extensively with school partners and endorses candidates for teaching licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Teacher Certification Officer, processing and endorsing teaching licenses for in-state and out-of-state applicants.
  • Serve as ECL Report author/submitter with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
  • Keep current with certification rules and regulations in Wisconsin and Minnesota and create materials to assist students in obtaining teaching licenses in these states.
  • Interpret teacher education policies, goals, and practices to a variety of internal and external audiences and inform appropriate Teacher Education Program personnel of changes in certification requirements.
  • Present teacher certification information to students in classes and in Professional Seminar.
  • Communicate with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, education agencies in other states, the Registrar, and applicants as necessary to solve problems and provide required assistance regarding certification.
  • Maintain records of endorsed applications and verifications.
  • Process student teaching applications for acceptance to the professional semester applying Teacher Education Program criteria.
  • Coordinate with personnel in the Teacher Education Program regarding acceptance or rejection of student teachers to the professional semester.
  • Maintain record of students admitted to professional semester, update regularly, and forward approved applications to the Field Experience Coordinator.
  • Consult with advisors of students not meeting minimum requirements for admission to professional semester to remedy deficiencies.
  • Monitor continued eligibility of approved applicants for the professional semester, including just prior to students beginning the professional semester, and update all stakeholders as to progress toward meeting requirements.
  • Maintain data on all testing and assessments within the Teacher Education Program including the CORE, Praxis II, ACTFL, FORT, etc.
  • Maintain records and prepare Teacher Education Program Reports including the PEDS and Title II as well as other reports as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Issues compliance notifications and provides education and resources to inquiring entities.
  • Collects, compiles, and organizes reports for a defined compliance program and communicates data to internal and external stakeholders when appropriate.
  • Assists with the creation and the maintenance of manuals, communication materials, and other compliance materials in accordance with established laws and regulations.
