About The Position

The Early Elementary Science & Social Studies Teacher will be responsible for providing direct instruction in the areas of science and social studies to early elementary aged students. A wide variety of tasks are performed in the teaching-learning process for students, the primary one being to help students learn the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible adults.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, grades K-8 self-contained, or other related field.
• State of Michigan teacher certification.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of elementary school curriculum and philosophy.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of effective instruction principles.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of assessment procedures.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of learning and motivation theory.
• Ability to collaborate with other staff.
• Ability to communicate well with a wide variety of audiences both in writing and verbally.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to coordinate and direct the work of others.
• Ability to interact proactively with parents.

Nice To Haves

• Prior professional development in early literacy.
• Prior professional development in subject matter literacy.
• Prior knowledge of state standards and state assessment tools.
