About The Position

The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered environment. The Teacher is to be immediately responsible to the principal for the carrying out of policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they relate to the function of the school, the classroom, and the immediate contact with students and parents. The Marching Band Director is responsible for leading and managing the high school marching band program. This includes directing rehearsals and performances, coordinating competitions, fostering student musical growth, and promoting school spirit and student leadership development through music and performance.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree
12 credit hours in education courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate, as outlined in the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards.
Technology proficiency in the areas of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet use for educational purposes and multimedia presentations.
Demonstrated competency in the subject assigned area(s).
Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
Must pass Texas DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse screening
Knowledge of subject assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team;
Must have good written and verbal skills.
Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of school’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Department of Catholic Schools, and administrative regulations.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to DCS requirements
Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the principal.
Be a positive role model for students and support mission of Catholic education.
Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as required.
Plan and conduct all marching band rehearsals, performances, and competitions.
Teach instrumental music and marching techniques to students.
Collaborate with school staff, booster clubs, and parents for band-related activities and events.
Develop field shows with creativity and attention to student strengths.
Manage band logistics, including uniforms, instruments, travel plans, and event schedules.
Maintain high standards of student behavior, performance, and discipline during practices and events.
Ensure compliance with school policies, TAPPS regulations, and safety standards.
Support student recruitment, retention, and musical development across grade levels.
Supervise assistant directors, instructors, and volunteers as needed.
Manage all communication to parents as well as administration regarding plans, organization, activities and logistics.
Manage any other duties as necessary for a successful marching band program.
Steward the band budget and ensure all financial processes are followed correctly.
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills
Keep informed of and comply with Department of Catholic school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other document required.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
