About The Position

Under the direction of the classroom teacher, the Teacher Assistant will assist in teaching-related activities. This includes record keeping, material processing, set-up, student assistance, and tutoring to enhance the efficiency of the instructional program. The role may also involve assisting individual students with medical, physical, and personal needs such as toileting, feeding, dressing, and transferring/lifting students.

  • Ability to squat, sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, hear, see, speak, and lift and/or carry at least 40lbs.
  • Awareness of potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissues, and communicable diseases.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Willingness to train in program and agency data management systems.
  • Ability to casually present oneself.
  • Accountability for timeliness and attendance.
  • Team-oriented.
  • Possess problem-solving skills.
  • Continue to expand knowledge by attending trainings, etc.
  • Comply with all background checks required by the program.
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s Licenses may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Have a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential.
  • Be enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree.
  • Be enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire.
  • Willingness to complete/continue trainings/certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Active nurturing supervision of children in the classroom.
  • Utilize curriculum to fidelity to teach children and keep them actively entertained.
  • Input accurate data for various assessments and program systems (e.g., ASQ’s, VKRP, PALS, DRDP, attendance, meals, contacts, daily health checks).
  • Work closely with other classroom staff to provide direct supervision of children.
  • Manage schedules with colleagues to ensure coverage.
  • Support knowledge of Early Learning Outcomes Frameworks, School Readiness Goals, Program Goals/Policies.
  • Perform duties requested by Supervisor, Head Start Director, COO, and CEO.
  • Complete weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports.
  • Maintain certifications as required.
