Teacher Assistant - Head Start

About The Position
The Teacher Assistant supports classroom operations in a fast-paced, high-demand nonprofit Head Start program serving at-risk children and families. The role assists the teacher in providing a safe, clean, and healthy environment and in delivering developmentally appropriate curriculum and assessments. Cross-training is available and expected for all positions. This is a 40-hour-per-week, part-year position based in Hackettstown, New Jersey, with in-person work. Compensation is $18.01–$20.18 per hour, depending on experience and education.
Requirements
- High school diploma; must be working toward a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, to be completed within two years of hire.
- Experience working with young children.
- Able to lift 30 pounds independently without assistance.
- Personal characteristics: compassionate, organized, flexible, a communicator, and a team player.
Nice To Haves
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Two years of experience in early childhood education.
- Direct experience with an at-risk population.
- Head Start experience.
- CDA credential; Norwescap Head Start will support the cost of professional development.
Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher in maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy environment for children and staff.
- Implement active supervision strategies.
- Assist with lesson planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum and classroom assessment.
- Implement screenings and assessments and perform data entry.
