About The Position

ACLD is a leading not-for-profit agency established in 1957, employing over 1200 staff across more than 70 program sites in Nassau and Suffolk. The organization is dedicated to assisting children, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities to achieve the highest level of independence. The Children’s Services division provides a continuum of services for children aged three to twenty-one through pre-school and after-school programs. This role, located at the Bay Shore Facility, involves assisting classroom staff with various duties, actively facilitating children’s educational and behavioral goals through role modeling and interaction within a trans-disciplinary team, and providing educational intervention under the guidance of a special education teacher to foster each child's independence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • New York State Teacher Assistant Certification required
  • Minimum of one year experience working with children in a classroom or childcare environment
  • Must have the ability to work with and supervise children in a variety of educational settings including, but not limited to, self-contained, integrated, off-site, and childcare
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to supervise children independently
  • Must be physically able to handle all aspects of the supervision of the day-to-day activities of preschoolers which may include, but not limited to, running, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs
  • Must have the ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills required
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently

  • Bilingual preferred
  • ABA experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist classroom staff with all classroom related duties
