About The Position

The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) is seeking a Teacher Assistant for a permanent, full-time position. This role involves supporting students with various needs, including physical, behavioral, and personal care. The Teacher Assistant will work collaboratively with teachers and other school staff to implement student support plans and promote a positive learning environment. Requirements

  • Educational Support diploma or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution, including a formal practicum placement.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific health care support training or certification (e.g., Non-Violent Crisis Intervention).

Responsibilities

  • Provides personal care functions such as assisting students with physical and mobility challenges, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for personal care needs, assisting students with routines (toileting, dressing, feeding, hygiene), administering medication, and carrying out medical procedures when trained and authorized.
  • Supports the implementation of identified behavior management outcomes, using appropriate physical interventions, promoting positive interactions among students, and recording data and observations.
  • Works collaboratively as a member of the school community, demonstrating ethical behaviors, respecting student rights, modeling problem-solving and conflict resolution, relaying student information to teachers, participating in required training, respecting privacy and confidentiality, and communicating effectively.
  • Develops and maintains a positive rapport with students by treating them with respect, dignity, and fairness, promoting independence and self-advocacy, respecting their strengths and challenges, maintaining collaborative relationships, and demonstrating patience and understanding.
