About The Position

The Teacher Assistant position at Easterseals Valhalla is a temporary role for the Summer program, running from July 6th to August 14th. This role involves working in integrated and self-contained preschool classrooms, collaborating with the Special Education Teacher to create a safe, warm, and caring educational environment for students. The assistant is expected to adhere to all OCFS regulations, follow the school-wide PBIS initiative, and work collaboratively with classroom staff, parents, education consultants, and administration. Easterseals is a standard-bearer for creating equity and access for people with disabilities and other barriers to long-term self-sufficiency, serving as an indispensable resource for people and families living with disabilities for 100 years. The organization helps people and families realize and reach for their full potential.

Requirements

  • High School education or GED
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Two (2) years practical experience working with children is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work under supervision of classroom teacher.
  • Assist in caring for physical needs of children
  • Attend staffing, departmental in-service meetings as assigned.
  • Assist in keeping classroom and program supplies ready and well maintained.
  • Maintain professional ethics in the building and out, regarding the discussion of pupils, and their conditions.
  • Adhere to the Program and Agency policies.
  • Assist individuals with toileting and personal care needs when necessary.
  • Assist with behavior management of children under the supervision of the classroom teacher as outlined by Program and Agency policies.
  • Interact with children at all times in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate way, while encouraging self-help.
  • Assist in child observation, records keeping, and assessment.
