About The Position

ACLD is a leading not-for-profit agency that assists children, teens, and adults in reaching the highest level of independence. The Children’s Services of ACLD provides a continuum of services to children from ages three to twenty-one in their pre-school and after-school programs. This role involves assisting classroom staff with all classroom-related duties and serving as an active facilitator of children’s educational and behavioral goals by role modeling and interacting with students as part of a trans-disciplinary team. The Teacher Assistant will provide educational intervention, under the direction of the special education teacher, to help each child reach their highest level of independence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • New York State Teacher Assistant Certification required.
  • Minimum of one year experience working with children in a classroom or childcare environment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to supervise children independently.
  • Must have the ability to work with and supervise children in a variety of educational settings including, but not limited to, self-contained, integrated, off-site, and childcare.
  • Must be physically able to handle all aspects of the supervision of the day-to-day activities of preschoolers which may include, but not limited to, running, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Working with children with special needs preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • ABA experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all aspects of the supervision of the day-to-day activities of preschoolers which may include, but not limited to, running, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
