The Teacher Assistant – Early Childhood Education (Pre-K) shall assist the Early Childhood Teacher with day-to-day activities. This role involves practicing appropriate interaction and language with students, exercising responsibility for their safety and welfare, and assisting in the implementation of programs developed by the teachers. The assistant will prepare and utilize instructional materials, assist students with teacher-planned activities, and take an active role in helping the teacher plan instructional activities. Responsibilities also include supervising small group discussions and activities, working with individual students based on developmental needs, and collaborating with the teacher in planning and implementing activities. The assistant will select supplementary materials, assist teachers with parent activities, and supervise and dine with children during mealtime, encouraging good eating habits. In some cases, assistance may be required with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, mobility assistance, seizure control, feeding needs, adaptive equipment, and behavioral assistance using positive support strategies. The role also requires maintaining a neat and orderly work environment, adhering to equal employment and nondiscrimination policies, and participating in professional learning programs to enhance job skills. The assistant must review current developments, literature, and technical sources related to job responsibilities, ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures, and follow Federal and State laws, including Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards, if applicable, as well as School Board policies. Other duties as assigned by the School Principal and Assistant Principal or designee will also be performed.
