About The Position

This position involves dual responsibilities as a Teacher Assistant and a Bus Driver at Mt View Elementary for the 26-27 School Year. As a Teacher Assistant, under limited supervision, the role provides support to the teacher in student instruction and performs tasks to aid the teaching-learning process. As a Bus Driver, under general supervision, the role ensures the safe transportation of students to and from destinations, adhering to school district procedures and monitoring student behavior on the bus.

Requirements

High School Diploma
Minimum of 48 hours of college level coursework for Teacher Assistant role.
A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required or WorkKeys Certification including Business Writing for Teacher Assistant role.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents, schools, community and district office personnel.
Willingness to undergo further training as required.
Experience using the computer.
Five (5) years of responsible driving experience for Bus Driver role.
Completion of the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles Bus Driver Training Course for Bus Driver role.
Must be able to pass the required DOT Physical examination and have a DOT Drug Screen with negative results for Bus Driver role.
Must be eligible to hold a Commercial Drivers License with Passenger Endorsement for Bus Driver role.
Must be physically able to lift and move objects related to the job functions.

Common arithmetical function to count the number of students on the bus and to complete time sheets.

Two years of experience working with children preferred, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job functions.
Proficiency in specific foreign language preferred.

Drives bus safely to destination and return.
Conforms to traffic rules and regulations; makes vehicle pre-checks and records and reports malfunctions; follows school district regulations for handling vehicle breakdowns and accident incidents; and keeps the bus clean.
Follows school district procedures when driving assigned bus routes.
Picks up and drops off students at designated times and bus stops; ensures students depart the bus at their usual stops; and determines that all students leave the bus at both ends of the route.
Monitors students' behavior while they are riding on the bus.
Takes suitable action to resolve incidents between/among students should such incidents occur and report inappropriate student behavior to school authorities as soon as possible.
Ensures the safe transportation of students.
