About The Position

Haven Charter High School empowers students through hands-on learning in the health sciences, fostering critical thinking, civic responsibility, and the confidence to succeed in college, careers, and beyond. Reporting to the Instructional Leader, teachers at Haven Charter High School (HCHS) are responsible for designing and delivering rigorous, student-centered instruction that meets the diverse needs of all learners. Teachers create engaging and inclusive learning environments that promote academic growth, critical thinking, creativity, and student achievement. The Art Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering engaging visual arts instruction while contributing to the continued growth of Haven’s visual arts program. The Art Teacher will provide students with meaningful opportunities to develop artistic skills, explore a variety of media and techniques, strengthen creative thinking, and use art as a form of expression and communication. As a full-time member of Haven’s instructional team, the Art Teacher will also provide instructional and co-teaching support within Humanities classes during designated periods outside of assigned Art classes, based on student, instructional, and school needs.

Requirements

Excellent written and oral communication skills
Facility with and willingness to learn education technologies
Experience working with adolescents in grades 9-12
Bachelor’s degree with teaching experience
NYS 7-12 certified or in process

Nice To Haves

Two years of teaching experience preferred
Master’s degree preferred
NYS 7-12 certified or in process preferred

Responsibilities

Build strong, supportive, and respectful relationships with students and foster a classroom culture in which adolescents feel valued, challenged, and supported.
Maintain effective classroom management while delivering rigorous, engaging, and high-quality instruction.
Plan and deliver standards-aligned visual arts instruction that develops students’ artistic skills, creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression.
Develop and continuously refine visual arts curriculum, units, projects, and assessments aligned with instructional goals and the evolving needs of Haven’s visual arts program.
Introduce students to a diverse range of artistic techniques, media, styles, cultures, artists, and forms of visual communication.
Create and maintain an organized, inclusive, culturally responsive, and engaging art classroom environment.
Establish and maintain procedures for the safe and responsible use, organization, storage, and care of art materials, supplies, tools, and equipment.
Contribute to the continued development of Haven’s visual arts program as the school grows, including identifying opportunities for new projects, learning experiences, and student engagement.
Create opportunities to display, showcase, and celebrate student artwork throughout the school community through exhibitions, school events, and other appropriate forums.
Plan and implement differentiated instruction that responds to diverse student strengths, learning styles, and academic needs.
Implement accommodations, modifications, and instructional supports outlined in students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other applicable learning plans.
Collaborate with Special Education staff and other members of the instructional team to ensure students receive appropriate academic and classroom supports.
Provide instructional and co-teaching support within Humanities classes during designated periods, based on student and school needs.
Integrate technology purposefully to enhance student engagement, collaboration, creativity, and learning outcomes.
Select and utilize a variety of instructional materials, resources, and strategies to support student learning.
Assess student learning and progress regularly and provide timely, specific, and actionable feedback.
Analyze assessment data and student work to inform instruction, differentiate learning, and monitor progress toward instructional goals.
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant student records in accordance with applicable laws, school policies, and established procedures.
Support student behavior through restorative practices, accountability, reflection, relationship-building, and consistent implementation of schoolwide policies and expectations.
Maintain high academic and behavioral expectations while providing students with the support necessary to meet those expectations.
Engage in ongoing self-reflection and professional growth to continuously strengthen instructional practice and student outcomes.
