About The Position

Provides instruction for Summer Program. Uses approved resources to plan instructional opportunities that addresses both academic as well as social-emotional needs of all students. Ensures active student engagement to help ensure appropriate student interactions and behaviors in classrooms and throughout the school. Promotes cooperative and collaborative relationships among and between students. Counsels students when adjustment and academic problems arise. Prepares weekly reports on student progress to share with students. Maintains attendance and other required records. Additional Work Days/Hours Based on the assignment, the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed: Summer hours

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • One (1) year experience with Elementary Summer Programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of current trends, research in field of specialization and methodology in instructional techniques.
  • Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives with special emphasis on teaching techniques.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Ability to deal effectively with students, staff and parents.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in technical areas of instruction.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage in diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child's education experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
  • Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Professional Certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required; or
  • Hold or be eligible for Educator License: Initial Professional License (IPL) issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares and presents lesson plans, assignments, and instructional materials to students in an appropriate fashion.
  • Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and uses appropriate instructional materials and strategies to meet the needs of all students and engage students in selected standards.
  • Monitors student progress using appropriate assessment techniques (graded assignments and assessments as well as through running records and note), prepares weekly parent update on student progress.
  • Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and supervises students in a variety of school related settings, monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Assists with non-instructional self-help skills, such as dressing, toileting, and personal hygiene.
  • Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and the emotional development of children.
  • Keeps attendance and grade records as required by Board Policy/Administrative Regulation.
  • Counsels pupils when academic and adjustment problems arise, confers with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students.
  • Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings; and provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals, objectives and methods.
  • Improves skill and knowledge base in current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multicultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary connections.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
