About The Position

The Programs Project Specialist supports Musco Center for the Arts’ programming, public engagement, and production activities by coordinating artists, logistics, and event operations for house-produced performances, outdoor festivals, virtual programs, and student engagement initiatives. Serving as a key liaison between Musco Center, University partners, and community collaborators, this role contributes to the creative development and execution of recorded, streamed, and in-person projects. Reporting to the Director of Artistic & Educational Programming, the Specialist helps conceptualize and manage artist residencies, student engagement activities, and virtual content creation. The position also provides leadership for select night and weekend events and contributes to public engagement efforts through promotional materials, communications, and audience/community events. Additional responsibilities include budget support, project tracking, and maintaining strong relationships across campus and within the community. This role requires a collaborative, proactive professional who thrives in a dynamic performing arts environment and is committed to fostering an equitable, inclusive, and community-centered arts experience. The Programs Project Specialist is a temporary, non-exempt staff position.

Requirements

  • Experience in production management, producing, or front‑of‑house operations sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the role.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build, engage, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, including the ability to evaluate information, identify solutions, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience developing and managing professional relationships with vendors and organizational partners.
  • Strong time and project management abilities, including balancing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Working knowledge of contracts, budgeting, and accounting principles.
  • Self‑starter with strong communication, follow‑up, and project‑completion skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email, and the ability to learn new software and social media platforms.
  • Strong oral communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly, tactfully, and professionally.
  • Strong written communication skills, including proficiency in writing, editing, and proofreading.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee producing aspects of student engagement programs and artist residencies, including conceptualizing, planning, coordinating logistics, managing artist services, and providing day‑of‑event leadership.
  • Manage producing aspects of virtual programming, including coordinating schedules, logistics, labor needs, and content capture for virtual offerings such as Musco Connects.
  • Provide management‑level oversight for assigned night and weekend activities, rehearsals, and events.
  • Support public engagement and promotional activities by helping develop communications, maintain website and publication content, and coordinate community and audience events, receptions, and parties.
  • Provide general administrative and budget support, including meeting scheduling, status reporting, budget tracking, and expense reconciliation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the needs of the department and Musco Center programs.
